Gencon Preview Part 1

With Gencon now less than three weeks away I figured it was time for a little preview of what I am looking forward to seeing. Along with this preview I hope to be posting updates during the Con directly from the floor which should be cool but it all depends on how well my camera phone works we shall see. Now with our further delay here is my Gencon preview

Alkemy
Alkemy is not a new game in fact the game was released before Gencon last year, however its been a slow year with only one release since Gencon and the rulebook for the game has been pushed back from a January release to Gencon. I love the game in fact I ran one of the very 1st tournaments in the country for the game. I do think that a lot of people have forgotten about the game, but there are rumors that there will be a big release that will kick start the game. I hope this is true as I own two complete armies that are at this point collecting dust.
This semi-collectible miniatures game looks interesting. It if the 1st mass combat/movement tray base game that I can recall ever being released in a collectible format. I have seen the demo kit and for the most the figures look good they are a little small and thin for my taste but the pre-paints look ok and the game itself looks fairly straight forward. This is definitely an entry level game aimed at non-hobby gamers but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I personally and interested in the this game however I don't think it would be something that I would have a lot of opportunity to play and the semi-collectible nature kind of puts me off and I was heavily into Mageknight and Mechwarrior to only have those games ruing in my opinion by the necessity to push the collectible/moneymaking aspect of the game.
This game promises to be some sort of hybrid the uses a software client to calculate combat results. Not to much is know about how the game actually works. The miniatures they have shown thus far do look pretty cool they are very realistic looking and are made from plastic with is a bonus. I think that this game has potential but I am a little concerned that they have not been updating their website very often.

Next week previews of Malifaux,Privateer Press, and Heavy Gear Blitz.
