Alkemy Lives!

After what seems like an eternity I have decided to break out the Alkemy stuff and give it another go. So diving in head first I decided that I would run some events at Whosyercon 2010(more info on that as time progresses) for which I need some painted figs. So over the weekend I put some time in a finshed up my Kaliman starter and then proceeded to paint up my Jade Triad starter and reinforcement pack most of which you can see in the image below. I am also going to be building a modular 3'X 3' table that can be broken down for smaller demos, more on that as it progresses, I am still debating wither to do a Jade Triad theme table or a Kaliman table I should know that in a couple of days and I work out some drawings.

Flame of War progress, Other News

It has been a wild couple of weeks, hence the lack of posting but thankfully things are now returning to normal or whatever normal is these days. Now that the explanation is out of the way we can get on with the post.

Flames of War Progress
The past two weeks have shown a resurgence in my interest in Flames of War not that I ever lost my interest in the game I just didn't see a whole lot of opportunity to play at the point level I like to play at which is 1500. Also the FoW Club that I am a part of is going through a lot of turmoil at the moment and I kinda got caught up in the middle of it. Now with the turmoil sorted out I actually got a game in a week ago it was a horrible version of the game but I still had fun. After the game I quickly started work finishing up my friends British Rifle Company that I have been painting for him as well as working on my own army for use in a couple of upcoming tournaments. I currently have a Royal Engineer Airlanding Platoon setting on my paint table I am working on for a tournament in Fort Wayne in August.

What Else is going on?
Work continues on my terrain for the Ambush Alley Games we are going to be running at GenCon this year. I would say that I am about a month or so from being completely finished and I believe that we have all of the troops painted that we will be using along with the vehicles. As for everything else I am contemplating entering a figure into a painting contest that TTGamers is holding, I don't have a chance in the world of winning specially with the painters that are over there but it would be interesting to see what happens. Finally I am working to completly paint up my Alkemy army for the tournament at Gencon.

At-43,FoW,UF,DBA

Its been a little while since I have updated this partially due to the fact that I was prepping for a the 1st ever Alkemy tournament in the US, which went very well by the way and secondly I have just been busy with no gaming related stuff which I won't go into here. So, with the tournament over and real life settling down a bit I now find my self feverishly working to catch up on painting and assembling various miniature for many games I have also been working on my own original campaign setting the the game Unbridled Fury and recently I have decided to get back into Flames of War thanks to the recent sale of my small AT-43 collection.

So that's basically what is going on, still big into gaming I am even starting up a DBA Early Imperial Rome army which adds to my collection of 15mm miniatures which is quickly becoming my standard for gaming as I have pretty much given up on buying into new 28mm games. I do plan to continue work on the current 28mm games I do play with Alkemy being the priority followed by Unbridled Fury and then the GW games. It is sad to think that this all started with Confrontation and now that game and company have been gutted and from the rumors I have been hearing big changes are coming but I still feel it may be to little to late.

To wrap this up I would like to announce that I am adding a section to the blog regarding my current projects, it won't be much to start with but I am hoping to start doing weekly blogs about the various updates to each project including pictures when possible. The 1st couple projects will be my historical armies the Romans and my Soon to be purchased British Paratroopers.

Alkemy,Tournaments

More Alkemy goodness. I got to play another game of Alkemy last night and I must say the game just keeps getting better the more I play it. Last night we got to test one of the prologue scenarios released by Kraken Editions earlier this year. The scenario was called the Informant and follows the story line setup in the prologues intro, essentially you are trying to find this man you had an artifact that many people wish to possess through the scenario the objective is to talk to as many information are you work your way down the table and gather enough information to find the man. Basically you have 3 informants close to the starting area that are worth 2 point you have 2 more about half way down the table that are work 2 points and then a one more at the complete opposite end of the table worth 3 points once you have scored 5 points the game is over. This scenario forces players to make decisions about when to fight and when to run which forces you to play the scenario and not the opponent which is nice. there is also the very distinct posiblity of a draw which is always cool. Over all a very fun mission and good game last night.

In other news I am putting the final touches on a tournament that is going to take place in mid octover more details will be posted here in 24 hours or so but it should be a pretty exciting

Gencon,Alkemy,Rackham,AO?

Well Gencon has come and gone and with it a lot of good time and money spent. Fortunately this year I was prepared and showed up to the Con packing cash and saved myself for the bank shock the following week. Overall the show was great I got to see a lot of old friends from the old rackham days as well as see a lot of people in the industry that know. The big thing this year for me has to be Alkemy.

Go figure another french game has snagged me in its grasp so much so that I bought 2 entire armies for the game. Thats right folks I am pretty much all in with Kraken Editions game. The great thing is they seem to have their priorities straight and everything that was a negative for that other french company they have turned around and made positive. For starters there are only 4 armies at the moment and they will be updated in waves. Yes, every army gets something in every wave. The game itself is top notch with a very cool system of dice and actions. This game is everything one could want in a skirmish game and the models are top notch as well. Even the designer was a very cool guy. Oh and did I mention the demo team was my old buddies form Rackham. Glad to seem them working with a solid company again.

And that brings us to Rackham..what can I say after their total lack of support for CAOR and the Legends line now only available from their main French site I am now officially done with them. I am no longer going to be supporting them in anyway and I have put away my books and the miniatures are now RPG minis only. Its also doesn't help that the last Confrontation tournament which was meant to be a fun tournament was completely ruined by a couple of Dirz players that did not understand that intent of the tournament. These gentlemen playing these armies may be ok individuals but they missed the boat with army construction and landed solidly in powergamer land I hope they had fun playing each other in the final round. There is something to be said from a tournament that started with 16 players then after 2 rounds only had 6 or so left to participate and many players walking away in disgust. This was my only low light of the entire show.

With that said I would like to thank the Table Top Gamers crew for putting on a solid list of events and providing a place for all of us to just hang out from time to time. I hope to participate in more of their events in the future maybe even help out if need be.

Last but certainly not least I have starting playing Anarchy Online again. I know what you are thinking...that game is still around..yes it is. It is also free to play at least the base game and the 1st booster expansion and if you like it you can upgrade to the 1st full expansion for only 5 bucks a month. I was in on this game from day one and it has only gotten better with age. So for anyone that is into Sci-Fi and interested in playing an MMO that is of a bit more slowed pace check it you can find it here. If anyone wants to find my in AO(Anarchy Online) please leave a comment and I do my best to meet up with you ingame.
